DUNDARAVE

DUNDARAVE is a prime success story exemplifying our vision to prioritize sustainability and carbon footprint reductions. As a DEEP ENERGY RETROFIT, both the embodied and operational carbon were minimized through building envelope upgrades and the elimination of all fossil fuels. The building is entirely electric. The original 1929 wood structure and concrete foundation were reused, applying an exterior insulation approach. This resulted in an air tightness rating that meets the Passive House EnerPHit standard for renovations. The elderly clients opted not to certify the building, yet their goals to renovate sustainably were definitely achieved. The AGING IN PLACE aspects of the renovation resulted in accessibility upgrades to meet the specific requirements of the Owners. By using an exterior insulation approach we not only improved air tightness and energy efficiency, we were able to expose the existing wood framed structure to express the story of the old growth timbers that built this house. A beautiful, Scandinavian style interiors was the result.
